COURSE FEE:
There is no course fee for Film or Theater at Templeton. We are extremely fortunate to have the support of film industry partners (Vancouver Film Studios and the Motion Picture Production Industry Association) that help cover some of the costs of equipment maintenance and replacement. We also heavily rely on parent and community support to purchase tickets for screenings and shows every year.
CLASSROOM CULTURE:
It is really important to me that my classroom is a genuinely inclusive and anti-racist, creative and democratic space. Kindness and Trust are two crucial values to me and I will expect us to strive to embody these values in the work we do together. I also think it’s really important to find joy and meaning through the creation process and will encourage you to do the same!
You are expected to contribute to a positive learning environment by acting in such a manner that allows you and others the maximum opportunity to learn. Please avoid eating or drinking at the computer stations. Your personal electronic devices and phones are to be kept in bags or backpacks during class unless needed for research or work.
WORK OUTSIDE OF CLASS:
Most of the projects for this course require you to work outside the classroom on the school grounds. It is essential that you observe appropriate etiquette during these times. Please be mindful and do not disrupt other classes. We must respect the working space of other students and teachers. You must ask permission to use all teaching spaces, understanding that the answer may be ‘no.’ We have a sign out process so I always know where you are filming and will come support you often during each block. You are NOT allowed to leave the school grounds during filming and remember to always return to class at least 15 minutes before the bell to transfer your footage and return your gear. If you are not able to follow these guidelines, you will be required to film inside the classroom only.
RESOURCES:
The equipment in the classroom is for your use! We are very fortunate to have expensive film equipment and we need to ensure it doesn’t get damaged or lost. If something is damaged or lost, you need to let us know immediately. Accidents happen, however if the damage is the result of dangerous or inappropriate behaviour (or extreme goofing off) you may be responsible for covering the repair or replacement.
